Season 19 Cup

Postby angeltoast » Sun Dec 16, 2018 1:45 pm

The Stiffs 271/8 Iceni Cricket Club 59/10
Iceni are out of the cup in the second round, again. It was clear we were out as soon as I saw who we were drawn against. Ah well, season 20 will be different. This time we enjoyed some useful cashflow from the gate, and all my boys gained some valuable match experience, as well as a few overs of bowling and batting training. Our bowlers made a good showing on a very wet and bouncy pitch, but of course our batsmen then suffered at the hands of The Stiffs' lethal bowlers. We were lucky to win the toss and bowl first, as that gave our bowlers 50 overs of experience, and our batsmen played cautiously, to hold out as long as possible, but the result was inevitable. All in all, it was a good day out, and we thank The Stiffs for their hospitality.

Hopefully we have the draw just before or just after Christmas, I need to plan for my cup match soon. Especially need to know if I'm home or away in the case I need to change it up a bit.

Draw done. :)

I'll be playing DEV-Rob - should be interesting. ;)

Nice clean cup game today against a new-ish team that fielded their second string. Everyone got a bat without killing their fitness for the DEV tomorrow and all the bowlers at least 4 overs plus a 17k crowd. Happy with that - here's to a nice draw in the next round.

We're through to Round 4 after a comfortable win against Greenfielders. :)

Next match will be tough against Northdown on their home turf.

Through to the final 32, aka round 5, with a classy batting performance on a high wear deck. Satin (37 off 55) kept the scoreboard ticking over early while Face (89 off 127) blunted their bowlers, with Satin's departure in the 22nd over bringing an increase in the RR as Lindley (86 off 81) took a liking to the bowlers. At 1-194 after 40 overs, we were always primed for a big push at the end as Manzini (30 off 24), Ferguson (9* off 6) and Bartley (7* off 4) showed as they looked for quick runs. Wasn't quite the finish I hoped for, but 5-267 on that pitch was always a tough ask.

An earlyish run-out gave us a headstart on the wicket count (Sansom, 23 off 42), but we didn't really crack their batting order until Parish (3-59) snuck one through Nuthall (31 off 43)and then it was chaos as regular wickets fell and the RRR grew and grew, though Hart stood tall with a classy 92 (106 balls). When he departed with the scorecard reading 6-162, their thin batting order was no match for the absolute gun spin of Shorten (3-30 off 9.2 with 1 maiden), who also claimed MOTM honours for his efforts with bat and ball. Gives us a very nice option to allow the 7 specialist bats as was the case today.

Couldn't help but chuckle at his ball quality of 5.8 though. It beat Eves and Bell from my team, and Burger and Dalley from Durham Elite's. Pretty sure he isn't anywhere close to their skill levels for the pitch conditions to make up that difference

Good game anyway xmarra, Shorten and Lindley's partnership proved to be the key difference between the sides and Hart just needed someone else to support him. Was always going to be tough chasing that on that pitch anyway. Special mention to Lindley who played his 100th SOD match as well, great way to celebrate it

Bit of a nightmare start going 26-3 against Disaster Area. Its close to a full strength team for us so we should be winning this really. Recovering to 75-3 but its not ideal to have my slogger in when we are consolidating. Also not ideal to have your next two men in being finishers after 15 overs.

129-6
Not looking good. These two can bat and we have a reasonable hitter at 9 but could be going out here.

A surprising win over Kashmir Warriors by 3 wickets takes me into the 5th round.
