Season 20

Postby Stomalomalus » Mon Mar 11, 2019 8:19 pm

So, first season in Div1, and Pest CCC open with a win, beating TomLundy's Mordialloc by 55 runs thanks to a good bowling performance and a super over from Andrew Bradfield - England wanabee all-rounder - who claimed 3 wickets and a run out in a single over to reduce the visitors from 122-6 to 127-9.

A sketchy batting performance started where it ended when star batsman Kenny Sheldon was run out on 12, with the highest partnership being the 8th wicket stand of 33 between Oli Bullock and Nicholas Hancock. Gavin Malone top scored for Pest with 39, with Mordialloc's Indirjeet Kaal top scoring with 53, the only half century in the match.

The win leaves Pest CCC 3rd in the table after the first round of matches. Next up, Rob's Greenfielders...

Match 2, and we started well before losing 3 wickets relatively quickly. Spike Napier held it together with a 71, before Chinthaka Tampoe took over with his own 71, this one not out. That gave Greenfielders 213 to chase.

We got a good start with an early Hancock wicket, followed by a pair for Bullock and another for Hancock left them 4 down for 35. A run out by Chopra then left them 49-5. We then cleaned them up quickly with a wicket for Bradfield, another for Bullock and 3 for Chopra reducing Greenfielders to 125. Stone top scoring with 56.

That left us 2nd in the table behind Essex Eagles, who thrashed Pro Crastinators to take the lead on RR. We're the only 2 teams with a 100% record.

A good win against Jims XI, especially some of the higher skilled batsmen didnt score the runs.

Halfway through the season and we've mounted a 13-point lead in Australia Division 1. Patel has 26 wickets in the 7 games at an average of 6.23. Holmes blasted his first ever ton today to take his seasons average to 177.50. Hopeful we can keep this form going and clinch our first ever perfect Division 1 title.

Took another 5 today, but his average increased. Bit loose with the ball  .

To highlight how absurd his performances have been, the record number of wickets in an Aus Div 1 DEV season is 37 (Cowdrey, S19). Patel has 31 after 8 games...

I had a peculiar match, as a 16 year old in only his sixth match hit 102 of 80 balls, but the team as a whole only managed 177, which got chased down easily. Oh well!

Donda's three wicket haul moves him into outright fourth on our all-time dev leading wicket-takers list :D 78 wickets from 46 games he sits at now, with club legend Jeffrey Bish's 86 a gettable target by seasons end (from 50 games). Going to have to wait till next season to see if he can crack the ton and overtake yet another club legend in Shelton's 2nd placing 101 wickets. Would think he'll eventually run down the club record of 121 wickets from Sami set way back in our dev domination days. Also a chance to become our most dev capped player, that record belonging to Shelton with 73 caps with Donda only recently turning 19 a few weeks back.
EDIT: Uh scratch that, Shelton doesn't hold the record Lindley does with 80. Still 35 games out of around 40 left in him to break the record.

Best ever bowling from Edward Flynn, a dev Bowler I bought only for dev games, gave me the win vs top placed team Essex eagles. His 2 wickets for 3 runs from 5 overs at the start of the game set the tone, while debutant Flynn Kemp kept things up with 3 for 25.

Leaves me 2nd and unlikely to catch Essex Eagles but in with a chance if they slip up.
