Young Expensive Bat Wanted

Postby mike778 » Wed Feb 12, 2020 6:34 pm

Long shot but might as well ask. Looking for a batsman to bat around 5 in the order long term. 14m in the bank and happy to spend up to 5m on anyone who hits every 'desirable' and has a funny name

-Potential 45+ (although would need to be much higher to get the top end of the budget)
-Must be eligible for Dev league all of next season
-Must have 30+ current
-Preferably skills weighted towards attack
-Stamina not essential as he would be batting later but fielding is
-Good characteristics would be good (surprise surprise), we use a bouncy pitch though so no front footers, my top 3 are set so no opener either
-If I was being picky would slightly prefer a right hander

Pretty much meets all your criteria. 29 current skill and lower order bat with great batting traits. Good fielding too. 5m and he is yours

Slight aside - is that the name he came with? Loving the latin/gallic feel :D

How about young Spike?

Thanks Stom, you can probably guess the two reasons why he falls into the 'cracking player just not quite what I am looking for category' though.

Is the 5m negotiable?

Was kind of looking for a bit more attack for that sort of money and it would mean left handers 4-6 unless we rethink the order. We want a run at the 2020 at some point and not sure how two slow starters will work re the run rate.

Well, maybe you can overlook them? Think about all that fielding! :)

After my NT stint, I now have a deep rooted phobia of superstars. I think I may need therapy.

lol. Well, today he topped scored with 80 off 68 for me at 1st drop. And he pulled everyone else along with him, it seems.

Sure price is always negotiable. Ben Alder, an attacking 50 pot bat who was 16 and low skills sold for 4.2-4.3m so I'm inclined to believe that Verginix is worth at least that much and more due to being 29 skill @ 17, having 2 batting traits and high fielding.

Agreed he is a interesting batsman - I have a long-term strategy with him which is to bat him @ 4. Provided your openers do their job then he comes in 15/20 overs in avoids the new ball and tees off around 25/30 overs. More difficult with T20 but similar strategy, comes in 8th/9th over and tees off. The slow starter trait should serve the purpose of 4 better because he can settle with reduced chance of getting out and then finisher kicks in. He would always work well @ 5/6 with finisher and slow starter is a slight detriment but not materially. Many of the best bats in the game have been slow starters (Stoke, Metcalfe, the many Pakistani guys who smash Eng NATs all the time).

Am tempted to keep as a project player but for good money he is yours if you want him - I don't think you'd get much better unless an opportune market dump comes along.
