International world cup warm ups

Postby rtj45 » Sun May 05, 2019 7:55 am

England have put Zimbabwe to the sword and are 231/2. Wright scores his maiden one day century well accompanied by 79 from millard. We are into the aggressors early today so let's see how much we can accumulate.

Don't worry about that shorten is into the bowling attack. It's his big chance

Man against boy as shorten clean bowls ishaq. Lands on middle heading for off, far too good for a tail ender. South Africa with win by 100 or so.

Australia vs West Indies Match Report

*From the Australian point of view*

West Indies Innings

With an almost Australia A team coming in featuring alot of young players including 3 on debut, it was always going to be a tough ask to win with such a young team and a rare captaincy on debut for Mcvee who was able to win the toss and sent the West Indies into bat. Looked like the type of pitch that had a bit in it for the bowlers and also still provided a decent batting surface. The West Indies top order took advantage of this until Selvage was able to take out the openers on his first game for Australia for a number of seasons. The star player for Australia was Lang on debut who was able to take 4 wickets and at only 21 years old is looking good to be a player to watch in the seasons to come. Thanks to Australias use of sand on the ball he can even reverse swing it ;) however the Windies set a very solid 303 giving Australia 304 needed for victory

Australian Innings

With just 2 senior batsman in the team in Thorndyke and Bowden it was going to mean the younger players/debutants were going to have to contribute if this score was going to be overcome. All batsman did just that with just Austin on his first game back for Australia not scoring alot going for 18. It was the middle order who stole the show with aggressive intent from the young batsman of Glenister, Laker and Alexander on debut. Laker unlucky to not score his maiden century after being run out with a bullet arm.

Looking forward

Australia looks ahead now to play against Bangladesh before taking on the giants of India and England. A new fresh 10 players will take the stage against Bangladesh with just Bowden being held as he wasn't given enough time at the crease against West Indies. Certainly the players today gave the selectors something to think about for the rest of the warmups and the world cup itself. We see Needham come in this week (to debut against Bangladesh) after some in depth scouting by James this week.
