Season 20

Postby liquefry » Fri Mar 15, 2019 10:43 pm

First game back in 1.1, must be close to a record total ... to Jim XI. They hit 385 in an incredible first innings, we had no hope. Apparently my bowling problems run deep!

Not a record total, I think Tonks scored 400 odd a couple seasons back against (the now bot) mmmmm99 (I may have missed or added a m, idk). Tbf they played 5 spinners on a green deck so deserved it
But that double ton by Msenti.....oh boy. That has to be the first double ton in a div 1 match right? Certainly the first in an Aussie one I've seen. That was insane!

There were some other interesting results in the opening round of league matches as well, Tonks was upset by Fartland by 40 runs defending what I thought at first a subpar total against the tonkers strong batting lineup.

Rogue easily enough accounted for Outlaws in a bit of a highscoring affair.

We cruised to a 100 odd run win despite a rather shaky top and middle order performance with some starts from Manzini (34 from 48), Ferguson (59 from 81) and Lindley (53 from 49) and had to be bailed out by Bowden's 80* from 65, a quick 21 from Bell and 35* from young gun Dizzy (more renowned for his bowling mind you! Showing his stuff as my pinch-hitter at 9). Though I must question Dizzy's tactics in the second last over. 5 blocks?

Then in response, a group bowling performance really kept the pressure on despite some absolutely smoked balls from Ricky Town's wk/opener in Anwa, who also made his maiden SOD ton. Unfortunately, he couldn't find any partners for a sustained period of time and was third last out before they were bowled out for 186. Parmar started well in his club debut, snagging 3-38 while Shorten pitched in with his golden arm for 1-15 and Parish was the other multiple wicket-taker with 2-42. Bell bowled tightly for no reward, while Dizzy and Chaudry took one each.

well...it was entertaining to say the least. That is what happens when Msenti is in form(even if its only 8 touch) not much your bowlers could do, it was just his day. he is one of the most dangerous bats in the game after all. was not happy with everything though so have some minor changes to make. at least i have it easy in cup match :D

My first ever Div1 game did not go to plan. Away to last season's champions, I was thrashed. Posting 164 all out after just 37 overs, it was only a matter of time. My bowlers did ok, making them bat for almost as long as we did, but for the loss of just 6 wickets.

Azmat top scored for me with 34 from 8th spot, and took 2-39 in reply.

Well played and congrats on the win Bump. None of my batsmen went on to make a substantially big score (top score: Solkar with 50). Contrast that with Ratnayake's very good 93 from 90 balls.

It's going to be a tough season. I think the new world No.1 and Stumped Cup Champs The Reds are the favourites for AUS Div.1 this season. ;)
Manager of The Tonkers - Winners of the career 'Grand Slam' (Div.1 SOD, T20, DEV & The Stumped! Cup)
Ex-National Manager of Australia - Champions Season 10 and 17
