South African NT try-outs

Postby mike778 » Sun Apr 14, 2019 10:00 am

Thanks to everyone who voted for me - 57% suggests it may have been more than one person as well which is nice. Anyway, this is the usual call for NT prospects. If you have anyone you think might make the grade then would be super if you could post them here (or elsewhere on the SA forum will do fine). Not going to set minimum standards as would prefer to see anyone who is out there but as a general guide to have a good chance, players will probably need:

-Current skills of 40+ for specialist batsmen/bowlers
-Close to 40 for all-rounders/keepers

These are obviously just rough guidelines. I rate fielding and charactaristics highly (probably more than most) and for all-rounders it depends a lot on how their skill balance suits the squad. Finally if anyone wants a job as a scout, tactical advisor or just make the tea and coffee then send me a mail.

Still a couple of seasons away, probably, but Napier might be worth a short NT career?

Grobbelaar is already in the mix so he is on the NT shortlist.

The above is to track future players not on the immediate shortlist. Chucking everyone on there which is what I started ding was turning it into a longlist.

NT Squad has been selected. Its a 23 man squad that will be cut back to 15 for the World Cup. Players called up for the first time (to my knowledge) are

-Mhlogo
-Switters
-Ferguson
-Giddings
-Steyn
-Gesler

Keep updates coming on players who you think may be suitable to make it in the future. Also if anyone wants to be an assistant let me know. General thoughts and benchmarks for how close your player may be

-The lowest current skilled specialist batsman is 41 as things stand although anyone around that level would need decent secondaries and/or traits and/or experience
-The lowest skilled specialist bowler (not counting all rounders) is 43
-There's probably too many right handed bats particularly amongst the all-rounders (who are all right handed) which isn't optimal so keeping eye out for more left handers coming through
-Both keepers are aged 27 after that there is Krypto's Bosman who is pretty much on a par but I'm not aware of any other keepers in the vicinity so if you have a good one then speak up

Haven't forgotton him, he was pretty close - there are a few other similar players who I had just above him for now.
