Fantastic win over the Night Watch with the affiliate. Our score of 200 was set up nicely by Jaydev Kosuri and Martijn Van Rooyen opening the batting with Scheepers making 20 battiny at 3, and while their bowlers pulled it back a bit, a handy innings of 22 from Gert Levy at 8 put us in a strong position. Our bowlers then ripped through their batting lineup, Koekemoer the star spearhead with 4 wickets. We reduced them to 47/8 at one point and it looked like we were on the brink of a massive victory, but I didn’t count on the strength of their tail with the bat. They put on no less than 108 runs for the penultimate wicket, with their number 10 Ahsan following up his good bowling with a 49(46), assisting middle order bat Turner well. It looked as though they would do the impossible, but thankfully Levy made sure that no miracles happened as he took the two final wickets in consecutive balls to give us a still comfortable 42 run win. Nice to get a victory off the back of a good all-round performance from my affiliate.

While the main team lost to mlmotplgc as expected, we manage to push pretty damn close to getting an upset. Our showings with the bat were mediocre again with the only scores being 21 from Ngwane and 28 not out from leggie all-rounder Blackwell, though our tail did stick around for a bit to get to 136 all out. We took two very quick
wickets, but a 67 run partnership for the 3rd wicket and a 30 run partnership for the 5th meant that they were cruising towards the target. However, we were given a glimmer of hope when Ansar’s golden arm dismissed their no.3 Fred Sheeran (cool name btw ) for a well played half century. From there Blackwell worked his magic by taking two quick wickets and getting a run out from the field, and it seemed that we were about to prevail in causing the biggest choke in our league yet, but there weren’t many runs to get and their tailenders kept calm and took the singles to get them home by two wickets. If we had 20 more runs on the board, who knows? We may have pulled off a huge upset. Anyways, even though we lost I’m proud of the boys for the way they played and got it so close against a good team.

Well we faced up to Port Glasgow for the second time this season, hoping for another win over them after the upset we caused in the opening game of season 25 for us. They won the toss and batted first, and unfortunately my bowlers had a bit of an off day despite the wear of the pitch (74 wear!) and bowled too many loose balls for them to capitalise on, meaning that they ended up 190 all out, well above par. We started off in our usual shaky manner by losing both openers, but Sherborne formed first a 32 run partnership with Hitendra and then a 58 run partnership with Ansar, both in good time. We were 5 down for 116 after 21 overs with plenty of time left, and with Blackwell and Ansar at the crease with two bowlers who can bat to come giving us a chance of getting to the total.

Unfortunately we completely lost the plot after Blackwell was dismissed with the score on 135, and then we went through a mega collapse as we lost 5 wickets for 2 runs in 3 overs (so much for the tail strength) to hand Port Glasgow a comfortable and deserved 53 run win.

I fear that we may be heading for a bottom of the table finish at the moment as fellow 38k rated team Leggs Eleven are getting better and better, they only lost to AITW by 29 runs today, and I feel that the next encounter with them will be tough indeed. Though first I'll need to see if we can beat an unmanaged Aarhusianer in our second attempt next week, we ended up collapsing against offspin pies on a green bouncy track last time round.

Young wicketkeeper/batsman Randy Strong scored his maiden century today. Strong tonked 101 n.o from just 69 balls as he led my team to a comfortable victory against YMIH. :)

It was 2nd vs 3rd today as we took on DEV-Rob's Greenfielders. They won the toss and batted first but, despite seven batters getting into double figures, they were unable to convert their starts. They were eventually dismissed for 152 at the end of the 36th over with top scorers being Stirling (26), Strachan (23) and Van Heerdens (23). Pick of our bowlers were Clapton (8-1-25-3) and Bonham (6-0-43-3).

In reply Bruce (59*) and Mannan (57) had a century opening stand and a run a ball 20 from Gilmour saw us home with 13.2 overs remaining. The extra point came in useful as top of the table Oswestry slipped a bit against BOT team Barbados Tridents and only scrapped home with a 1 run victory. This meant that we passed them to take top spot on net run rate. All eyes will be on the rematch against them in three weeks time where the promotion could be decided.

Well, thankfully we did not collapse against the currently unmanaged Aarhusianer today. We batted first and captain Vattyam went early, but Sherborne and Miller then put together a 97 run stand and made a solid 48 and 40 respectively. Our middle order of Hitendra, Blackwell and Ansar played some breezy innings and a couple of boundaries from the tail got us to 2/13 for 9 after 40 overs. We then dismantled them with relative ease with contributions from everyone asides from Vijayarangan (who kept things tight anyway) and we should have had an even bigger win to boost the NRR had Aarhusianer's tailenders not put together a 45 run partnership for the final wicket, but even so our victory was still secured by over 100 runs. Blackwell got the MOTM for 2/13 as well as a quickfire 26(15).

So it looks like we're going to end up with max 4 wins at the end of the season (better than I hoped) barring an upset, with our only major game being against Leggs Eleven in a few weeks time, which'll be a bit of a challenge given that their team is showing real fight every game against teams rated 20k above them, unlike us where we usually roll over as soon as we're put under pressure.
