Pitch throughout the series:

With moisture in the range of 50-60 & speed almost certainly below 60, this is a paradise for medium-pacers, almost certainly favoring the visitors' decision of bringing along 4 Ms & 4MFs outnumbering the modest pair of medium pacers in Hicks, Chaudhary & medium fasts in Hanekom. There will be significant wear, forcing the spinners to come in, and will definitely be a test for the skills of the batters.

Forced Changes & Replacements:
Bilal, a sturdy-young-composed number 3 has been sold off. He was a 20s skilled bat, who will now be replaced by Frank Horne a 15 skilled 17yo. Bilal was 20 yo but low-skilled, so hopefully, that wouldn't be a scandalous swap, scrutinized by the visitors' manager & the spectators.

The Visitors' Squad - A modest analysis
Allowed to bring in only 15 players for this tour, the NFTWs arrived on the 2nd of September with 5 batters, 4 all-rounders & 6 bowlers leaning heavily on medium pacers.

NFTW

Batting:
- 20 Yo Cato is a Left-Handed Defensive bat with 15 touch & high defense skills. A front-footed player, he is a great option against the home team in the low bouncy pitches the knights have to offer.
- 22yo Defensive bat Durai is what we can categorize as a balanced player and has pretty decent stats to support his selection in this squad. His spare skills in WK may also have been a reason, although his good fielding skills coupled with bullet arm ability might create quite a problem for the knights.
- A crowd favorites no matter where he goes, Sherwood is well known for his aggressive batting. Quite experienced at only 20yo, he is certain to leave a mark on the spectators & the pretty girls' heart, I am quite sure.
- The 22yo Keeper-Batsman Masikane is the only pure wicket-keeper announced by the NFTWs for this series. The finisher is expected to play some interesting innings for sure.
- Last but not least, the young 18yo Corbett is a future star in the making and I'm sure people would be watching to see how he fairs against Knights

All-rounders:
- The 20yo Salahuddin; one of the two prec bowlers at NFTW & Captain of the visiting squad would certainly be looking forward to leaving his mark with both bat & ball, while equally wanting to please his manager by handing them the trophy in the first of many series to be played between these two teams.
- Famous for his accuracy & talent to move the ball, Straton is the senior-most all-rounders at NTFW. He'd most certainly like to bring in that experience and swing the ball away in the visitors' favor.
- Modest might be his skills but his ability to perform under pressure & expertise with the ball at death certainly makes him one to look out for.
- The other prec bowler at NTFW, the 17 years young Stobart is yet another death bowler the visitors can bank on. Even at this young age, he has great accuracy and good variation which surely makes him a challenge, hopefully not a mighty one.

Bowling
- The 17yo Takhar is the only Wrist spinner in the arsenal for the visitors and would certainly be licking his lips at the worn-out pitches at the Knights Fort.
- Yet another young gun at 17, Swart is one of the umpteen medium pacers the visitors have decided to come with. High are his potentials but his skills could use a boost. It would be interesting to see Salahuddin use him during this series.
- 18yo Crowd Pleaser Labuschagne is a left-arm medium-fast & one with good accuracy & movement. He is ideal for these environments & would be a delight to watch him play in his elements.
- The only other spinner on this tour the 22yo Plaatjies is a regular wicket-taker but tends to leak runs at times. But his skills will be necessary on the turning tracks albeit his age forces him to leave Takhar alone in the lone U21 game.
- With decent skills to back his ability behind the ball, 20yo Noor is a wicket-taking machine. A partnership breaker, his unorthodox action makes him a difficult bowler to navigate. We'll see how the Knights fair against him.
- The final bowler on the list - the 21yo superstar Shane Johnson is not just a skilled medium-fast, but also highly influential.

Kalinga Knights

Batting
- Opener Mainwaring, the 20yo is famous for his ability to block the opposition all night long.
- Fletcher is the most skilled bat at the top for us
- Horne is the 1st replacement, low-skilled, very young.
- Dharma has been in an awful form. Skilled sure, but we very much doubt his capabilities
- Hewett is rich in skill and when he fires, he is difficult to contain, but most often than not, he fails to ignite.
- Qadri is the first choice wk, attacking batter towards the tail
- Cox is the second choice wk, balanced bat, mostly dependable

All-rounders
-Most Experienced Sumon is the link between the top and the rest. He's famous for his short bowling spells that magically produce results.
- Hicks is supposed to be a batter but even at 5, he's more a bowler than he could ever be with the ball in hand. Death Bowler. Tends to bowl longer spells towards death.
- Alwines, the sole wrist spinner in the Knights dugout, is very economical with the new ball.

Bowlers
- Kiran (that's me in real life) is the fastest. A potential nat in making.
- Deivan is the 2nd fastest and can generate reverse swing, although he has never used that ability to pick up a wicket.
- Kishore is the other spinner in the announced squad. Nothing special about him, except he has high skills for his age.
- Choudhari is the eldest of the bowlers & the most skilled as well. Hopefully, he will keep the visitors at bay.
- Hanekom is the youngest but most promising bowler that we at the Knights would certainly be looking forward to.

Match 1 | 4th Sep 2021 | Knights Fort | 50 0ver

Prediction - Good day for spinners?

NFTW XI
Corbett
Cato
Masikane +
Stratton RM
Durai
Sherwood
Salahuddin* RMF
Takar LWS
Plaajies RFS
Johnson RMF
Noor RMF

KK XI
Mainwaring
Fletcher
Dharmaratne
Sumon LMF
Hicks LM
Hewett
Qadri* +
Kiran RFM
Alwines RWS
Kishore RFS
Chaudhari RM

Conditions look good for spin and both the teams will be going ahead with 2 spinners each. On paper, the batting unit for the knights looks better, but under pressure, they've almost always crumbled. It will be an interesting opening game.
