So after an excellent group stage in the Affiliates B group, the top 4 are now set as Marvellous Effort in first, us in second, East Row Eagles hot on our heels at 3rd and NFTW in 4th. I personally think that these rankings are pretty fair and reflect how well all 4 of us have played. Tonks has been a class above us with the consistency of his players which has led to him getting win after win, but as shown by us and Free HK he’s not completely invulnerable to defeat. East Row Eagles have been similarly solid, particularly their bowling and their tail
strength, but they haven’t always had the same cohesion as a unit that only Marvellous Effort seem to have. NFTW have had a changing team over the season but have utilised their resources very well and have performed regardless of pitch conditions with their versatile
bowling, and have mostly seemed to win or lose by fine margins, and their players have certainly displayed their ability to keep calm under pressure.
However, credit must still be given to those who
aren’t progressing to the next round. Free HK have been very competitive despite being home-grown and have pulled off one or two upset wins. The Lions have been similarly solid by getting a fair share of wins and taking some games right down to the wire even if they didn’t prevail in the end, including our memorable encounter in our 2nd fixture against them where we triumphed by only one wicket. Pickersleigh too have put up some decent performances but couldn’t pull through in tight situations. Manama Maurauders has a pretty tough tournament, but they did get a win on the board and also pushed some games pretty close in the latter half of the group stage.
Our final two fixtures of the group are Free HK vs Manama as well as ERE vs The Penguin Squad. Looking forward to seeing what we can do against RTJs affiliate in our final game.
