All-time New Zealand OD Div 1 stats

Postby bennyprofane » Sun Nov 29, 2020 10:23 am

Cool to read about South Africa in Krypto's thread in their forum, so...

Here's the historical record of top 3 in NZ OD Div 1 - OD being the only league I've ever cared about, so someone else could do the same for T20 and DEV if they like.

Any NZ coaches, what were the original team names in the slots now taken by "Well Play" and "Rangers"? I recognise some of the player names when I look at my old games against them (eg Matty Ryall was a great opponent batting for "Well Play") but my memory fails me and all details of the old team names seem to have been scrubbed and replaced... [now resolved - "Well Play" were Battalion.]

Champions:
Oxfam Rejects 7, Nelson 6, Fanos 3, Durham Elite 3, Lamb XI 2, Usz Warriors 1, Battalion 1,

Runners Up:
Oxfam Rejects 7, Lamb XI 5, Elite 3, Wimbish CC 2, Nelson 2, Idle Wanderers 1, Durham Elite 1, Fanos 1, Battalion 1

Bronze:
Elite 7, Usz Warriors 3, Battalion 3, Idle Wanderers 2, Durham Elite 2, Wimbish CC 1, Oxfam Rejects 1, Nelson 1, PAK Domination 1, Shaws Kiwis 1, [Rangers] 1,

Some surprises in there - I haven't played really seriously since the days when Lamb and Elite were my main opponents and it's a real surprise that Elite never won it as I remember finding them very hard to beat. By contrast, I remember Wimbish as a new club but must have been in a deep pay-no-attention rebuild when they came second twice. And while I think of Lamb as part of a big 3 with me and Elite, Lamb never came 3rd.

Anyhow, if we give 4 points for a championship, 2 for second, 1 for third, here's the...

All-time NZ OD Table
Oxfam Rejects - 43
Nelson - 29
Lamb XI - 18
Durham Elite - 16
Fanos - 14
Elite - 13
Battalion - 9
Usz Warriors - 7
Wimbish CC - 5
Idle Wanderers - 4
PAK Domination - 1
Shaws Kiwis - 1
[Rangers] - 1

So what were the original team names of Well Play and Rangers? Anyone remember?

Nice to see the stats mate and thank you for the feedback on my write up .

Oxfam Rejects seems to be a power house and there is some gap between the sides , hopefully the merger will do its job and shorten that gap with it becoming more competitive .

I've not been a powerhouse for a long time - last OD win was in season 13 - I've been treading water since then hoping for an update to the match engine. Though I have a monster generation of young bowlers coming through and might get back to taking it seriously to do them justice, even with the current opening-bowler-hating ME.

Nelson have been the NZ team to beat in recent years, and will be the main NZ threat in the first season or two of the new system: definitely looking forward to the new more competitive Oceania league. Planning to crash directly out of T20 Div 1 while giving my youngsters lots of games, but will do what I can to stay up in OD.

Took us a long time to get any good in the sod. Not claiming our first championship till season 18 but have one 6\8 since.

I belived the well play team is battalion. He quit the game when he was the nz nat team manager and selected one of the thrashers legends in the nz squad and got a bit abused for it

I joined end of season 10 and got to see your team (Oxfam rejects) dish out plenty of thrashing to people, including myself in seasons to come. I remember you, Fanos (with captain fantastic Mike Moran) and Lamb XI all having strong teams.
Did Seanglers manage any of those teams? He was a great help when i joined the NAT setup and I was a bit gutted when left.

As for the here and now, hope you can come back stronger benny as need some help knocking Nelson off his perch ;)
Manager of Durham Elite, Wearside Lankans & New Zealand

Winners of SOD 1.1, season 16, 17 & 21
Winner of T20 1.1 season 21 & 24

Winner of International T20 - Season 12 & 22
Runner up of International SOD - Season 17
