In the first round, we played old enemies England on a high wear, high moisture pitch.

There were many debutants in this match. Australia: first T20I for Stein, Picard, Root, Ellery, Parker, Takkar. England: first T20I for Abbott and Avery.

Australia won the toss and sent England into bat. Jawad anchored the innings well with 48 from 51 balls as the English batsmen compiled a decent total of 137 in the tough conditions. All the Aussie bowlers did a good job. In reply, Truelove anchored the Aussie innings well with 44 n.o. from 44 balls, whilst Needham batted very well with 46 from 32 balls. Australia chased the total with 6 wickets and 2.2 overs to spare. A good start to the season for the Aussies. :)

A good tight game worthy of an international match. Nice to defeat the old enemy, always a valuable 4 points!

A disappointing game, but one that was all about the toss for me. On a deck like that, it was always going to be something of a lottery.

Jawad the pick of the English players, though Tree's wonderful economy rate of 3 was also a good showing. The death bowlers were torn new ones...

Back to the drawing board. Well played Aus.

So we had two very talented debutants in Jelen and Fouche being handed their caps preceding our first match. Pakistan won the toss against South Africa and elected to bat in the opening round of the tournament.

Schmidt and Bernstein devastated with the ball upfront but Zubari and Naveed played brilliantly, both notching up half tons and looking well on track to take Pakistan to a good score. But a maiden wicket for Jelen broke the partnership, and then the Protea bowling applied the brakes on Pakistan's innings with another wicket to Opperman this time and 4 wickets at the back end to all-rounder Mhlongo including a fantastic hattrick as Pakistan finished on 166/9

All the batsmen got good starts of 15-30 runs. The star of the innings though was South Africa's poster boy Munashe Mncwabe who dazzled the spectators with a 50(29) to hold the innings together, assisted by some decent knocks from Richmond and Awberry. Pakistan's bowlers started to find their rhythm near the back end though as the middle order fell and a collapse was imminent, leaving South Africa with 4 runs off the final over with 3 wickets in hand, but a no-look six from no.9 Bernstein got us over the line.

Good start and it's nice to see some of the decisions that we made prior to the game pay off, even though Pakistan did end up getting the bonus point for running the game so close, so well played to them as well. Thankfully our fielding wasn't horrendous at a 68k rating :P , largely in thanks to Zietsman's captaincy but he'll have a lot of pressure on him to perform with the bat, he scored 15(7) today with two sixes off 9 and 10 rated deliveries but then got bowled by a 1/10 leg stump pie.

Elswhere in the tournament, what a debut for young Billy Austin of Zimbabwe! Although he failed with the bat coming in at 4, he more than made up for it with the ball by taking 5/5 off 2 overs to win the game for Zimbabwe! Surely that's some kind of record for best NAT debut ever? Well done to liquefry both for managing Zimbabwe in that game as well as because Austin is his affiliate's player.

In terms of ratings all the sides seem pretty close so this may be a very competitive season, although ratings wise India are absolutely stacked. I never knew that they had such a talent in Anwar Haroon (https://www.stumpedgame.com/player.php?Player=183808) until I looked through their squad. Fantastic batsman!

And their squad is capped at 17 players now too after trying to sneak in Paddy, but the 17 they have are magnificent... definitely the team to watch.

Well, if it makes you feel better, I asked my groundsman to make the pitch drier 2 days ago (set it to 5 moisture) but my groundsman has proved to be hopeless. Moisture has gone up from 90-93-97!

The second round of T20 Internationals are about to start.

Australia won the toss and sent Zimbabwe in to bat on a very green deck.
