R4 continued to throw up some great games and brought the pack much closer!

We start off at Waldron where they welcomed Pro Crastinators to a very dry and slow wicket. Pro C were put into bat and they made an exceptional effort putting on a huge 334/8. Mncwabe finally found out where his bat was and used it to bludgeon 130 . He was ably assisted by Rhodes and Stokes. Plant was the only bowler to really offer much resistance with 4/62. In response Waldron were always going to struggle and despite a handful of good innings, most notably from Murtaza, they succumbed for 250. Sandrasagra made amends for his poor bowling last week with 4/54.

Pest CCC hosted the easy targets of Setemares in a great opportunity to get some runs on the board for the struggling top order. However, that didn't totally go to plan and Pest CCC's top order once again crawled its way to an OK first innings total. Late order hitting from Mason (who is proving invaluable lower order runs in all formats) got Pest up to 277. Setemares unfortunately had a supplier issue this week and couldn't obtain any red bull. So in order to get their sugar rush they ran on to the wicket, faced < a handful of balls and walked back to the pavilion again. At one point they were 12/6! 64 all out was slightly more respectable as Setemares were unable to register the heroics achieved against Chester. Mason topped off a superb all round performance with 3/11.

Chester Ducks batsman went ballistic against Krypto, with some fierce runs from their strong middle-lower order, as Chester clocked up a huge 352 batting first. Mike Aston's 20 ball 66 was a highlight with 8 sixes! Bezuidenhout went for 91 runs in an assault that was illegal in most countries. Krypto were always going to struggle and Sharif's 4/48 was part of a dominant bowling display which saw Krypto fall for 196.

In the final game of the round and our latest in the "how did that happen" series, Perry Pirates pipped West Row to the win. Perry were put into bat and lost early wickets, the inexperienced Anfar at no.6 hit a streaky 64 to push the score on but at 199/7 Perry were looking at a sub par total. However the tail wagged once again (two weeks in a row) and brought the total up to 252! West Row's death bowling which has taken apart 2 quality batting line ups so far were unable to create any chances and left West Row with a hard chase. West Row's bats were almost non existent and only Hardman stood up in what was a very disappointing batting performance. West Row fell short but picked up an important bonus point to retain top spot.

So after that fun, nobody is left undefeated and the pack has tightened. Next week sees 3 big ties with ProC v Krypto, Waldron v Chester and Pest v West Row. Setemares host Perry in the relegation zone.

Oof unlucky Krypto, but well played to both.

EurAfrica Div 2.3 is shaping up to be very interesting. We had a fantastic game against the highest rated team Basco with a crushing 90 run win, with new signing Jarvis being the pick of the bowlers. I find it interesting that Basco have had a slow start to this season but I’ll back them to bounce back. The underdogs Weymouth are proving to be very competent with a win over Durham, with Indolent Devils continuing their bid for the title with a win over Cestrians.

The highlight of this week by far though was league favourites Los Galactico after having brutally destroyed every team they’ve played against so far, ending up in a tie against the minnows of the league Sydney Sixers!

Nice one YVRK! We may see some new teams in div 1 next season at this rate as Jammycarrot beat the Stiffs too.

We gave the champions a good old hiding which was a pleasant surprise.

We find ourselves in top and have Chester next week... a win for us could be a huge step towards a title! But I think despite our strong form this season we are underdogs against a very strong side

This season provides games that just keep on giving and round 5 had an absolute stormer!

We start off with Setemares hosting Perry Pirates. In a match where Perry Pirates were expected to win, they did just that. Perry were put into bat (I think Setemares have put everyone in to bat this season!) and once again Setemares conceded 300. Connick made a solid 110* and Zafar continued from his great knock last week with another fluent 64. Setemares creeped over 200 thanks to a solid 72* from Carson but ultimately the result was never in doubt. The win pushes Perry up to 4th on the table!

Chester Ducks travelled to Waldron and were treated to a spin bowl. Chester’s bowlers didn’t suit the pitch much but perhaps Waldron got the toss wrong by bowling first which allowed Chester’s batsman to play to their strengths and put up a huge total of 305. Bennett made a healthy 84 and Jupp smashed some good lower order runs. Scoreboard pressure then basically made the bowling disadvantage irrelevant and despite some fight from Biddle the rest never got going. Chester jump up to 2nd and are right back into the title contention, as you would imagine! Waldron have won just one match from five and are really struggling in a competitive division.

Champions Pest CCC hosted table toppers West Row and opted to bat on a moist but fast paced wicket. Pest got off to a very slow start and early wickets put the pressure on the seemingly fragile batting line up. The pressure eventually told with West Row’s change bowlers Reardon and Pompolnius tearing through the middle order, both finished with 4 wickets. The tail didn’t wag either and it meant Wijeratne carried his bat for a cautious 80*. West Row came out with caution themselves and despite the early loss of Ferguson they eased their way to the target of 176 with a bonus point with Foster eventually providing a good innings with a 80 red inker. West Row now jump into the lead by 4 points and have sent Pest into the relegation zone.

And finally, the main stage performance of ProC v Krypto. Both teams are full of talent and have shown oozing ability throughout their batting and bowling so far this season. Krypto won the toss and put ProC into bat. Despite early wickets ProC kept up the scoring rate and enter Mncwabe. He bludgeoned an excellent 118 in just 80 balls and the tail wagged a bit to get ProC to 305. However, the sun shone on a good batting pitch and Krypto’s bats believed they could chase this down. Bangash went out with intent and smoked 81 from just 72 balls. He was supported by an excellent innings from Fouche by Krypto lost their way and found themselves on 256/7. But superman was in and never say never with Superman around. With an able Bezuidenhout for company, Superman was guiding Krypto to a miraculous steal! They took 17 off a Forsyth over and only needed 4 from the final 2 overs. However, Sandrasagra played pantomime villain and snuck one through Superman to leave Krypto needing 3 to win with just a wicket in hand! Hyde then decided to take what may be the worst single I’ve ever seen to expose himself to Forsyth on the final over and a well directed ball on off stump accounted for wicket number 10 and with that the win for ProC by 1 run. Phew!

With that ProC, Krypto and Perry all find themselves on 14 points.

Next week we have a huge match as West Row host Chester, Stragglers Pest CCC host Waldron, Its ProC’s turn to blitz Setemares and Perry host Krypto in what could be an interesting match.

Team of the week
1. Bangash (Krypto) – 81 (72) 3 keeper dismissals
2. Bennett (Chester) – 84(88)
3. Foster (West Row) – 83*(105)
4. Connick (Perry Pirates) – 110*(122)
5. Biddle (Waldron) – 106*(99)
6. Mncwabe (ProC) – 118(80)
7. Jupp (Chester) – 69(44) and 2/40
8. Reardon (West Row) – 4/30
9. Pompolnius (West Row) – 4/56
10. Hannadige (Perry Pirates) – 4/43 and 19(20)
11. Bernstein (ProC) – 3/49

Well everyone is going to get a bit unlucky at points, I think you'll make up for it! We conceded a 60 run partnership to 2 bowlers from Perry and then lost too  obv not as bad as losing to Setemares but frustrating to spill points in odd scenarios
